Properties of an e-assessment system

Different types of properties

For the purpose of this Wiki, the properties of an e-assessment system will be divided into the following categories:

Assessment types and items

System architecture

Ideally, an assessment system would implement the following architecture properties1):

  • designed as a standalone e-assessment system,
  • ability to exchange content, user data and components with other e-assessment systems,
  • pluggable into LMS (learning management systems), or other systems

Other requests

  • flexibility to include assessments based on different theories and models,
  • completeness of the supported assessment process,
  • reusability (identification, isolation and exchange) of useful objects (items, assessment plans)
  • medium neutrality (when possible, the system also supports paper and pencil tests)
